{Mess free painting for toddlers using a plastic baggie 😀}
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀 I love doing holiday craft projects with my one-year-old son, but soon after we try painting something, I soon regret the decision when I’m cleaning paint off of everything including his mouth! This option uses a baggie to paint in, so it is toddler mess free painting!
You will need the following items to complete this project:
- Thick cardstock or thin cardboard
- 3 different shades of green acrylic paint
- Gallon size baggie
- Scissors
- Shamrock Template (FREE TEMPLATE BELOW)
The first thing you do is trace the template onto your cardstock and cut the shape out. Then you will dot the top with the three different shades of green. After that, carefully slide the shamrock into the baggie. It helps to open the baggie really wide, so the paint doesn’t touch the baggie until it is all the way in the bag.
After that, the hard part is over! Now just hand the bag to your kiddo and let them squish the paint all over and have fun playing! Lucas really enjoyed doing this. I asked him if he wanted to paint, and he said “me paint” then went to the table to pull out his chair. Here he is having fun “painting”!
After he was all done “painting” and the entire shamrock was covered in paint, I very carefully opened the bag and took the shamrock out so it could dry. I will tell you I was not able to be completely mess free with this part of the project, but the paint does wash off your hands very easily. Once it was completely dry, I weighed it down so it would flatten out. It wanted to curl with all that paint on there. After weighing it down overnight it looked fantastic!
Here is a PDF copy of the shamrock shape that I used for this project so you can print it and start this project with your kids!
Thank you for taking the time to read my post! I hope this toddler mess free painting is something you and your kids really enjoy doing together. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀
