The secret to the best cake pops ever!
Jump to RecipeI absolutely love a really good cake pop! Every time I make cake pops, they are gone instantly. It’s the best feeling I get when everyone loves what I made and ask for seconds. Let me show you how to make adorable Easter egg cake pops!
I have been making cake pops for a few years now and here’s the secret to the most amazing cake pops…only use a tiny bit of frosting! If you use too much frosting the cake pop just tastes overly sweet, and you miss the actual cake flavor. I discovered this a few years ago and it was a game changer!
Now, here’s how you make the best cake pops ever!
First, you will want to bake a boxed white cake per the instructions on the box. I used Pillsbury white cake mix but whatever brand you like will work for this.
Let it cool for 15-20 minutes and then crumble it up into your mixing bowl.
This is when I add 2 tablespoons of my favorite vanilla frosting. I just use canned frosting, but you could also use a homemade recipe too.
Then I turn my mixer on medium speed and let it fully incorporate until it looks like this:
The cake pop batter should be able to hold a shape. If you have trouble getting to this texture, you can add a little more frosting a little bit at a time.
After this, I used my egg mold that I purchased on Amazon to form the cake pops. They are no longer available on Amazon, but Etsy does sell them as well.

I just formed the cake mixture into a ball and pressed it into the cake mold with extra so when I closed the mold the excess squished out. The cake pop should be really compressed and solid, so it doesn’t fall apart when they are dipped in the chocolate candy melts.
How to dip the Easter egg cake balls
After I have all the cake pops molded, I put them into the freezer for 20 minutes. This just helps keep their shape when I am dipping them.
When I’m ready to dip the cake pop, I melt the chocolate candy melts in the microwave using 30 second intervals until smooth. I melted one color at a time, dipped all the cake pops for that color, and then melted the next one.
I used a fork and knife to dip my cake pops. I put them on the tip of the fork and dunked them into the melted chocolate and lightly tapped them on the side of the bowl to remove the excess chocolate. Then I use the knife to carefully scrape them off the fork and onto the sheet tray. You will want to either use a silicone mat or wax paper to put your dipped cake pops on.
How to decorate the Easter egg cake pops
To decorate the cake pops you can just have fun and use different things! I used a few sprinkles when the chocolate was still wet on some and decided to do stripes on the rest. To get the stripes, I have found the easiest and less messy way is to use piping bags. Put a couple spoons of the leftover chocolate into the piping bags and cut a little bit of the tip off of the piping bag. Then go back and forth over the cake pops to make the stripes.
When the chocolate was set, I put them in mini cupcake liners for serving.
